on returning from the motherland

I slept until 2:30 p.m. today. None of my family woke me up (or came in to make sure I was still breathing) because they figured I was jetlagged and only sleeping that late because I'd had trouble falling asleep the night before. They assumed wrong though--I went to bed at 12:30 a.m. and slept like a baby until 10:00 a.m., when I woke up, rolled over, and went back to sleep. I didn't think I was even capable of sleeping for 14 hours. Now I've got one of those too-much sleep headaches, but what can I say? I'm a big advocate of pushing the limits of my endurance.

After I woke up, I did one load of laundry, ate a cinnamon roll, and proceeded to watch TV for three hours. I'm really not looking forward to school starting. Responsibility, pffft.

I always figured I got my unusually short stature from my dad's side (I tower over some of his sisters and was a good bit taller than my late grandmother), but I found out from a cousin that one of my great-grandmothers on my mom's side was unusually short, even by early 20th century Asian standards. So apparently I am a purebred shrimp. Let's hope for my kids' sake that it's recessive.

In other maternal ancestor news, one of my great-grandfathers (husband of the aforementioned really short great-grandmother), when given the choice between starting a soy sauce company or a liquor company, chose the liquor. Excellent.
