on genetics

Yesterday, at the UT Law mentors reception:

Me (to Attorney 1): So what sort of practice do you do?
Atty 1: Mostly I do trial law, plaintiffs, stuff like that.
Me: Hey, so does my dad, do you know him? FP?
Atty 1: You're FP's daughter?? Of course I know him, we go way back! I didn't know he had a grown daughter!
Me: Yup, that's me.
Atty 1: Well, you're much better looking than he is.
Me: Thanks..?

Later:

(Similar conversation with Attorney 2 about practice areas and my dad)
Atty 2: I know your dad--I worked with BG quite a bit when your dad worked for him.
Me: Oh, really?
Atty 2: Yes. You know, that explains why you're so short.
Me: It sure does...

on love

Conversation with the boy:

Me: Yeah, so if I were a fruit, I'd be a pineapple. Spiky on the outside, sweet on the inside.
K: You aren't sweet on the inside.
Me: I am, too.
K: No, you're a little ball of hate.
Me: Well, fine, I mean, pineapples aren't sweet sweet...they're a little sour. I'm sweet with a kick. What do you think?
K: I think your metaphor sucks.
